Focus, Fireworks and Fun…

Whether you master the skill of focusing or not, will have a huge impact on your business success, health and enjoyment in life.

Yet one of the most common challenges I’ve struggled with personally (and hear clients, friends and contacts struggle with all the time) is to focus on one thing at at time.

What is the ONE thing you’d love to achieve this year?

Just one thing! Not two, three, four or even a sneaky five. Just one!

One of the things I’ve discovered is that when we focus on one thing at a time, we tend to get better results.

This isn’t natural for someone like me who likes variety and has a mind like a firework, going off in all sorts of directions. I’m great at coming up with ideas and making things happen, but not so good completing and finishing things off.

Can you relate to this?

By contrast when I focus, I’m calmer, healthier and get better results.

Whereas when I spread myself too thin, I forget to look after myself, I have way too many long nights, I reach for unhealthy foods to cope with stressful moments, and I don’t spend enough time with those I love.

Yes I have a few exciting business goals I’d love to achieve this year including publishing my next book (on how to grow your business by supporting social causes), as well as expanding my business network – The Heartabiz Hub. But while both these opportunities really excite me, they may not be the best things for me to focus on first.

Last year I tried making things easier by having a good team of people around me who help out. But I know that both personally and business wise, it would still be in my best interest to slow down!

That’s the message I get from having had adrenal fatigue for a few months last year, and having cracked my ribs twice in the last six months – most recently in a skiing accident a couple of weeks ago.

Working on too many projects doesn’t make good business sense either. You end up spending more time and money on people and systems, to make them all happen. And that has a negative impact on cash-flow in the short-term.

So this year I’ve been asking myself another question:

What ONE thing would make the biggest difference to my life?

What comes up again and again when I ask myself this is to simplify my business systems and to FOCUS on ONE thing at a time – so I can generate more income, more quickly and with far less effort. To monetise what I’ve already created. Rather than feeding my natural tendency to jump from one exciting project to the next.This in turn will then free me up to write that book and other dreams I have for my business.

Yes I could focus on just writing my next book by taking time out to do that in the way I did with my last book, but the reality is that I do need to generate cash too. And more importantly I want to have a healthier and less stressful year in 2016.

So the FIRST thing I’ve decided to focus on this year is to roll-out one of my on-line courses: The Compassionate Sales Formula.

I know from experience this is a brilliant course that could help lots more people attract more clients. And I’m excited by the prospect of turning this ‘evergreen’ in the next few months i.e. to be offering this throughout the year with automated promotion, sign up and delivery. The plan is that this will generate good revenue every month, and will free me up to do more of what I love – connecting and working with like-minded leaders who are making a difference in the world.

I imagine a life of calm fun where my personal life is supported by me spending most of my working time delivering training courses and talks, taking part in interviews and attending events.

Phew that feels so much better…

I love the idea of spending less time involved with in the ‘nitty gritty’ of my business and to be having more fun.

Focusing on monetising The Compassionate Sales Formula in this way first will help me ensure I get the time and emotional space to write my book, and grow The Heartabiz Hub later in the year.

Yes I’d still aim to achieve them all this year, but I’m not feeling stressed about it. In fact, quite the contrary – it feels such a relief to have made that decision!
