Top 10 Tips For Making The Most Of Social Media Groups

Most people totally waste their time on social media and don’t realise they are letting great opportunities pass them by.

  • What do you use social media groups for?
  • For the social media groups you enjoy being part of, what specifically do you enjoy about that group?
  • What do you not like about social media groups?

In my experience, unless there are clear and specific guidelines (that are applied by members) and a group leader who facilitates group discussion (and enforces guidelines), most groups end up being a place where people mainly turn up to promote themselves.

If you only turn up in groups to post your events, offers or blog posts, ask yourself – what do you think of others who do this?

10 Great Reasons to Offer Low Cost Products

Have you ever considered offering a low-cost product or service such as a book, ebook, training course, membership (e.g. Netflix), audio or training video? It can be a great way to grow your business. I share ten reasons why in this blog post.

While I’d always wanted to offer products at different price points so I could offer solutions to people of all budgets, it wasn’t until I started selling Miracle Bracelets to fund my humanitarian trips to Rwanda, that I experienced many benefits of doing this. I now offer several low-cost solutions including books and online courses for many reasons including:

  1. It gives people a chance to experience your work/products – some people may want to test you out before deciding whether to buy one of your more higher priced products/services. Offering low-cost products is a way to showcase what you do, to tempt more people to browse in your shop – and to ultimately buy from you! To make money from low-cost products you obviously either need to be able to sell lots of them profitably or to be effective at converting buyers into your higher priced solutions.

  2. You get your name and brand out to more people – being visible to lots of your ideal clients is one of the keys to business success. Assuming you offer quality low-cost solutions that are consistent with your brand and product/service range this is a way to extend your marketing and have people talking about what you’re doing. I experienced this when people wore my bracelets as some people would ask where they got them. Likewise, people who enjoy my books and tell others about them spreading the ripple of my work.

  3. More people are likely to impulse buy a low cost versus high priced product – people don’t need as long to think about the purchase of a low-cost product compared to justifying a more expensive option and are therefore more likely to buy from you in the moment. If you offer a low-cost regular subscription service such as Netflix or Amazon Prime it could be a good way to build a reliable regular income stream.

  4. The energy and flow of getting regular sales (receiving money) feels great and attracts more business – this was one of the surprising things I noticed after publishing my first book. While I offer services that cost thousands I sometimes get more excited about selling a £10/15 book. Especially when lots of individual sales come through. It feels good when lots of people want what you offer – through selling my books I honestly feel I’m helping more people. Whenever I take books to events I usually sell them. The more I go out and speak, the more books I sell, people I help and an exchange of energy happens. Energetically the value wasn’t so important as feeling an abundant flow. If you feel lack that’s what you experience. It’s much easier to attract more money when you’re creating opportunities for it to flow.

  5. You have the opportunity to grow your database with every sale – this means more people to connect and build relationships with. If they like what you do, this is likely to result in further sales. One way to do this is to offer an incentive for them to get in touch with you.  For example, through both my books, I invite people to sign up for free reader resources via my website. Those who want the resources give me their name and email address which means I have a way to connect with them and explore whether I can help them in any other way.

  6. It’s easier for people to refer people to you – people like to help their friends and family out. Offering low-cost products/services there is demand for, makes it easier for contacts to refer business to you.

  7. You can turn low-cost products/services items into lead generators – as well as upselling to other products/services, if you know what other challenges your audience face and are willing to pay to fix, you can direct buyers to other relevant solutions you offer.

  8. It can open more doors – if you offer quality low-cost products that make you stand out from your competitors hey can open doors.  I’ve been paid to speak at conferences and offer training courses because I’m the author of two best-selling books. Even early on, I’d paid for the cost of my first book with a training contract before I’d published it. Offering online courses brings me business mentoring clients as I offer more than just being a mentor or coach. In a similar way, selling my Miracle Bracelets has put me in front of people who have gone on to refer business from me or become a client.

  9. You will be helping more people – if you are driven by the desire to ‘make a difference’ to others then I assume you’ll want to help as many people as possible with the resources you’ve got available. Offering low-cost products and services helps you do this.

  10. Ultimately you can earn more MONEY – assuming there is demand for what you offer and you’re using effective marketing strategies low-cost products and services can boost your cash-flow, profit, and money you can pay yourself, give away or reinvest in your business. This is effectively

So what low-cost products services could you offer?

There are so many ways to approach this. The first step is to find out what your ideal clients would like and then come up with a low-cost solution they’d be willing to buy.

As always if you’d like any help with this, just contact me.

Have fun!

How to Answer the Question: What do you do?

There is one thing I constantly hear business owners struggling with that is losing them business – not responding effectively to the question ‘What do you do?’

You see when asked this, most answer this literally by sharing their profession or what they call themselves e.g. I’m a therapist, I’m a photographer, I’m an author, or I’m a coach.

Sharing ‘titles’ may work for the more traditional vocations that most people ‘get’ and for those who are employed rather than running their own businesses (and not seeking to take on clients).

However, responding in this way for more unusual professions and particularly when you are self employed, often doesn’t help the other person understand ‘what’ you do – to know whether or not you can help them, or anyone they know.

Are You Asking Enough People To Buy From You?

I’ve always been an advocate of building relationships and adding value through content marketing before ‘selling’ but there are also times when the person you are speaking to IS ready to buy when you meet them – if you have a solution that will solve one of their immediate needs.

For higher end purchases people may need longer to think but if you have a low cost product or leveraged service that appeals to a wide audience, you may find people will buy from you more quickly, particularly those who are ready to buy or who want to experience what you offer before committing to more.

The benefits of having a low cost solution and money flowing in was something I first learnt when I started selling Miracle Bracelets in my quest to raise funds for the humanitarian work I do in Rwanda – and the same thing is happening with my books.  There is nothing better than making sales (and money) every day and I’d really like you to experience this too! Not only because you’d then have more income but also because when you activate the flow of money, you’ll FEEL more SUCCESSFUL and in doing so you’ll be in a better energetic state to attract more business.

Last weekend I was at a great workshop in London that really pushed me out my comfort zone and in doing so help me make some huge shifts. As soon as the workshop started we were asked to focus on ‘selling’ in EVERY conversation – during breaks, lunch and the evenings, with the promise the everyone at the three day event would make money during the event. Being someone who hates pushy sales people and manipulative techniques I was curious to see how this would work and if it would be an enjoyable experience. And it was both – not only did I make 11 sales last weekend it was also great fun too. Even the teenagers who came with no business ideas were making money – one took home over £1,000!

So here are my top tips for making more sales / taking on more clients:

  • Have a low cost product that appeals to a mass audience – tangible products work particularly well but in the last week I’ve also been paid for future sales of my next book, a webinar, a couple of in person events I’ve got coming up as well as for marketing strategy sessions.
  • Adapt what you offer to the audience you’re speaking to – if you want to and have something that could be of benefit to them. As I’ve shared many a time, if you need cash in the bank, focus on cash generating activities and build your ideal business alongside this. There is money everywhere if you are flexible with your offering – if you want ideas, download my 52 Ways To Generate More Cash tip-sheet.
  • ASK people to buy from you!!!!! – just yesterday someone said they’d look up my book on Amazon so rather than let that comment go (and potentially not get a sale) I let them know I had a copy with me they could buy then and there, which they did. If they like what you’ve got to offer and are ready to buy they will. If not, you can then at least establish whether they may buy later or are never likely to be interested. So you can focus your future efforts on nurturing relationships with the ‘maybes’.
  • Ask open questions – questions beginning with ‘how’ or ‘what’ inviting people to telling you what they need help with or are struggling with.
  • Offer to help – rather than ‘jumping into their story’ ask how you could help them. Helping others shift out their pain into solutions as quickly as possible is a kind thing to do!
  • Stop chatting & giving your expertise for free – I love connecting with like-minded people but if you want to enjoy earning good money doing what you love, there also needs to be a point you limit what you share in conversations and ask people to buy from you. If you don’t they’ll chat with you and pay someone else – has that ever happened to you?
  • Offer paid solutions face-to-face, and freebies on-line – when you are face-to-face you can move through the conversation of building rapport and finding out people’s needs fairly quickly and so you can offer to help there and then. You can always offer freebies face-to-face if you establish ‘now’ isn’t the right time for them – so you can keep in touch and be in the forefront of their mind when they are ready to buy. By contrast offering freebies on-line is a great way to gather contact details of leads so you can build up a relationship with them before you making them an offer.

If you are not asking people questions, to establish what they need and/or inviting them to buy from you, I can guarantee you are letting clients and income opportunities slip through your fingers. Please stop saying ‘no’ to people who are looking for solutions and ready to buy from you – start helping them instead!

Just like any other skill you’ve already mastered, learning how to enjoy more people saying ‘yes’ is just another skill to learn – what to do and how to do it in a way that feels authentic, helpful and respectful. That’s why I created my  Compassionate Sales Formula Course – because I hate to think of so many gifted people out there who are not earning enough money through their business because they’ve not worked out how to sign up enough clients or are charging too little for what they are offering.

I’m running this as a workshop in Edinburgh on 26th & 27th March (click HERE to find out more) and help clients with this on a one-to-one basis. I’ll also be taking this course on-line later in the year.

Whatever you’re thinking having read this post, now is the perfect time to take action that will take you nearer your income goals – what are you going to do?

Let’s get out there having more fun while helping others!

13 Slow Burn Ways To Build A Profitable, Joyful & Sustainable Business

Over the last few weeks I’ve been discussing the importance of matching the promotional strategies you adopt with the specific results or outcomes you’d like to get over the short and long-term.

In my blog post What’s Best – Quick Sales or Slow Burn? I shared six factors to consider when deciding which marketing strategy to adopt. You see most people don’t think about this and waste their time and money doing limited random promotional activities that don’t yield the results they’d like. Rather than getting clear on their desired outcomes first and then deciding which marketing strategies are most likely deliver.

In my blog 12 Quick Fire Strategies to Get Out There & Sign Up Clients Now I went on to share twelve things you can do (or learn to do) fairly quickly and cheaply to bring clients. My favourites include offering irresistible freebies, reaching out to five potential clients, business partners a day for a month and public speaking.

Today I’m sharing 13 Slow Burn Ways for building a profitable, joyful and sustainable business.

Because if you want your business to be sustainable over the long-term, where you are spending less time marketing and selling, these will help you do this e.g. by targeting groups of your ideal clients rather than individual ideal clients; building relationships and automating processes. So you’ve got more time to do what you really love!

  • Build your own tribe, community or network* – decide how to connect and build relationships with your audience e.g. monthly meetings, community calls, Google Hangouts, a social media group or local Meet Up Group.
  • Networking* – join a local or on-line business network that you enjoy. Attend their events regularly and build relationships with other members. Attend other networking events too where groups of your ideal clients go.
  • Email marketing* – build and service an email list of your ideal clients by providing valuable regular content e.g. by offering freebies or useful tips/resources
  • Set up auto-responders (pre written automated email messages) that go out to those who sign up to your freebie which invite subscribers to buy from you at some point.
  • Support a charity through your business* – make fundraising and supporting a social cause one of your main marketing strategies. You’ll be amazed how this will help you grow your network and attract more clients/business contacts – because you’ll be more memorable, people will want to support you in your efforts and do business with you.
  • Run free  or fundraising webinars – promote these and capture contact details of those signing up that you can then send your regular emails to.
  • Blogging – regularly write your own blog and find places to be a guest blogger (remembering to also send your posts to those on your email list).
  • Reward clients/business partners for referring business to you – offering them a discount/free products/ services or affiliate commission for each person they refer.
  • Give clients vouchers they can give to their friends or redeem themselves once they’ve referred so many people.
  • Advertise/promote your freebies on an ongoing basis – once you’ve a sales funnel in place that converts leads into low cost products/services so what you spend on advertising becomes an investment rather than a cost.
  • Be social media savvy* – use Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google+ etc. to build relationships with your ideal clients and potential business partners by sharing valuable content ( including using advertising to drive traffic to your ‘freebies’) and entering into discussions through your Fanpages & Groups and in groups you below to.
  • Set up an automated sequence of regular social media posts using software such as Hootesuite.
  • Start your own Google Hangout or Podcast Show and market this effectively.

These are just a few of many ideas, what’s important is you identify all those that could work really well for you and then focus on the ones you enjoy that get the best results.

Have fun!

12 Quick Fire Strategies to Get More Clients Now

Are you wasting time trying to get everything perfect before getting out there and meeting potential clients?

Following on from last week’s blog, What’s Best – Quick Sales or Slow Burn, I thought I’d share some ideas for if you need to earn money quickly.

Come up with a special offer / irresistible free gift / pilot / samples / prototype and promote this a few ways:

  • Top 250 List – write a list of everyone you know personally; let them know what you’re now doing and ask if they know anyone who could be interested in your offer (ideally by phone).
  • Give people (e.g. clients & contacts) an incentive or reward for referring people to you – and ask them you do this.
  • Learn how to use social media advertising effectively to promote your offer (once you’ve a sales funnel in place to follow up leads and convert into clients).
  • Email everyone you know and let them know about your special offer.
  • Do personal messages to all your social media connections to tell them about your offer.
  • Create a useful and highly attractive freebie that your ideal clients will want to sign up to. You don’t need to spend long on it (some of my freebies I created in 1-hour).
  • Public Speaking* – seek out groups of your ideal clients to speak to e.g. through Facebook groups, Meet Up groups, local community groups, networking groups – deliver a talk that invites the audience to sign up to your ‘offer’ or freebie in a heart-centered way at the end.
  • Host taster events so people can meet you and sample your work or products (keep them short i.e. 1-2 hours). Remembering to capture contact details by offering your freebie/offer. These events could be free, charge a nominal fee or be for donations (for a cause close to your heart).
  • Ask if you can attend others’ events to show case your products/services – remembering to come up with an attractive offer for them so they will want to say ‘yes’ to you!
  • Run fundraising events targeted at your ideal clients (on-line or in person).
  • Connect with Joint Venture Partners (others who offer different services to the same audience – discuss how you could cross refer each other e.g. promoting, interviewing, guest blogging, sharing each other’s free resources, offering sales commission etc. This is one of my personal favourites for so many reasons!

Note, this is only a quick burner strategy if you have an irresistible product/service in place and already have good relationships with potential partners to approach – otherwise this is a slow burn strategy that can get quick results once you have relationships with JVPs who are a good ‘fit’.

  • Follow a plan – e.g. commit to reach out to 5 potential clients, business partners a day for a month.

These are just some of many ideas, it would be great to hear your ideas and thoughts below.

Next week I’ll be sharing some long-term marketing strategies for building a joyful and sustainable business.

I’d love to hear your ideas and thoughts – please do share your comments below.
